50 Years of Excellence in Marine Research and Education

The Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, has a rich legacy of advancing marine education and research.
Initially established in 1971 as the Department of Marine Biology and Oceanography under the Canadian Technical Assistance Program, IMS has grown significantly over the decades. In 1983, it was restructured into the Institute of Marine Sciences, incorporating marine science into the Fourth Five-Year Plan of Bangladesh's development scheme.
